OPEN MIND Technologies AG is a German developer for CAM solutions. The company was founded in 1984 as a developer of algorithms for CNC controller manufacturers (Grunding/Philips, Siemens).

Building on this extensive NC know-how, they developed a CAM software package hyperMILL.

Components are becoming more and more complex, yet turnover times keep getting consistently shorter.

The highly efficient NC code-based hyperMILL® VIRTUAL Machining simulation solution from OPEN MIND enables manufacturers to do just that.

Thanks to added networking and virtual mapping of the actual processes, machining operations can be reliably evaluated, checked and optimised before running the job.

The hyperMILL® MAXX Machining performance package comprises three separate modules for highly efficient roughing, finishing and drilling. This unique approach makes it possible to reduce machining times and achieve high standards of quality at the same time.

Trochoidal tool paths ensure extremely fast material removal. Innovative strategies for barrel cutters allow for finishing in record time. Milling tools tilted in cutting mode can open holes quickly and easily, even in materials that are difficult to machine and without the need for a predrilled hole.

5-axis programming does not need to be time-consuming or unreliable. OPEN MIND’s innovative 5-axis technology stands out clearly from other solutions due to its simple and user-friendly programming, reliable algorithms for collision detection and intelligent collision avoidance.

Multiple tilt strategies are available: 3+2, automatic indexing and 5-axis simultaneous machining.

Familiar 3D strategies, such as Z-level machining or rest machining have been expanded to include 5-axis processing. A broad spectrum of machining strategies for surfaces, cavities and special machining tasks.


hyperMILL® 2.5D machining is typically used for plate processing in tool and mold manufacturing. Numerous pockets, plane levels, contours and drill holes present very special challenges here. Intelligent mechanisms, such as the recognition of pocket features, help the CAM user to program significantly faster. 

2D components normally offer great potential for automation. hyperMILL® therefore provides a comprehensive solution that allows programming to be completely automated. All 2.5D strategies can also be applied to multi-axis machining.


Numerous strategies for roughing and finishing ensure efficient 3D machining. The toolpaths are always calculated with the aim of achieving optimised manufacturing times. An example of this is the avoidance of unnecessary rapid movements and redundant movements.

Thanks to its comprehensive automation solutions, hyperMILL® also offers enormous potential for savings in the area of 3D programming.


Whatever the type of drilling task, hyperMILL® always offers the right cycle. This begins with simple tasks such as centering or drilling with chip breaks and ends with complex deep hole drilling with various stepped and cross-holes.

Holes can be machined from one direction or automatically from different directions. We can choose from Centering, Simple Drilling, Drilling with Chip Break, Reaming and Boring, Tapping, Thread Milling, Drilling with pecking.


Mill turning is fully integrated in the hyperMILL® CAM software. The user can equally use mill/turn strategies as well as all 2.5D, 3D and 5-axis milling strategies in a single user interface.

Another advantage of the millTURN module being fully integrated in hyperMILL® is that the tool database, stock tracking, collision checking and postprocessor can be used jointly for all milling and turning operations.
